The Concept of Continuing Education
Continuing Education (CE) is part of the process of lifelong learning that all professionals including health profession undertake from training schools until retirement. Traditionally it has been viewed by the health professions in terms of updating knowledge. In reality, all health staffs as well as others need skills that extend beyond their profession areas in order to practice effectively in the modern world. Such skills include management, education and training, information technology, audit, communication and team building. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) embraces these broader skills. Thus, health institutions now shoulder the responsibility for both continuing education and professional development (CEPD) of health professionals to effectively combat evolving health challenges in the country due frequent changes in health based technology, good practices in delivery of health services, health policies as well as prevention and treatment methodologies for emerging diseases.
